The bluebells are blooming in the brooklyn botanic garden. It is beautiful! Meg and Finn went with us last weekend and we got some much needed sunshine and fresh scents of springtime.
Does anyone know what these purple flowers are? I like them a lot, but couldn't figure it out.
Can you believe this is our SIXTH annual roof garden? It's coming up very nicely this year. We have several new earth boxes and staking systems thanks to christmas and birthday gifts. We're starting to feel like old hats at this. The snap peas and lettuce will be the earliest to harvest. Bryan grew all the tomatoes and peppers from seed inside during the late winter/early spring months. We also grew basil, parsley and the (as yet to bloom) forget-me-nots from seed inside. The snap peas, lettuce and spinach we grew from seed, but just planted them outside in the early spring. My strawberries have faithfully returned and I was even surprised with some pansies that came up on their own a month or so ago. As the weather gets warmer, I see more volunteer flowers such as cosmos and alyssum. Every day I look for snap pea flowers; I'm sure they're not more than a week away. Jonas tends it well during the day and always wants to show me his garden when I come home from work. You'll notice we also finally got a long hose, which makes watering much faster than the old bucket system. I'll try to put up some photos as the summer progresses.
